Help End Sewage Pollution
We want the Council to help #EndSewagePollution.
The SAS Water Quality Report (https://www.sas.org.uk/news/ocean-activists-challenge-water-companies/)
showed that last summer:
- there were more than 1700 sewage discharges across England that
were reported by water companies to SAS and went on its Safer Seas
Service app.
- Southern Water was the worst company for sewage discharges last
summer with 571
- 220 of these affected our 5 local bathing beaches (Southwick,
Hove Lawns, Hove First Avenue, Central Brighton and Saltdean) and
recreational waters used by surfers, swimmers, sailors,
kitesurfers, rowers, kayakers and stand up paddlers
- Central Brighton and Hove tied with other beaches at having the
most sewage alerts (44 between May and September) in England
- Southern Water only provide alerts during the bathing season
(mid-May to October).
