Keep Hangleton Park Shelter

We the undersigned petition Brighton & Hove Council to not take down the Shelter located at Hangleton Park. This shelter has been a part of Hangleton for over 30 years and the local community has been brought up with it around us and holds many memories as it is used constantly.

Taking down the shelter would be detrimental to the local community and we think that it should just repaired instead of collapsing the shelter!

This ePetition ran from 26/06/2018 to 08/10/2018 and has now finished.

Council response

Response given at the Environment, Transport & Sustainability Committee on 9 October 2018:

"Thank you for your petition. I’m pleased that the shelter has served the community well for over 30 years but, unfortunately, is now at the end of its useful life.
I asked officers for a costing to remove and replace it and that came out at nearly £10,000 and so I then asked that a quotation from a Blacksmith be obtained for a repair. This cost would be £3,730 plus VAT. Both of these sums are well beyond the budget set aside for children’s play equipment for which there are very many requests as you can imagine.
I’m afraid that due to the shelter’s very poor condition it will have to be removed for safety reasons.
Perhaps the community could investigate other, external sources of funding and fund raising".
